Today was a driving day, but we got to stop along the way from the Cape and check out the Dexter Grist Mill and the Hoxie House. The Hoxie House is the oldest house on the Cape. Iit was built in the 1670's by a Reverend with 13 kids. YIKES!!!
On the road we drove through Boston (see you later) and Salem (hopefully we have the energy to stop here on the way back through). We stopped at the LL Bean HQ in Freeport on the way up to Bingham. LL Bean here in Freeport is open 24 hours a day. The theory is so they can accommodate hunters and other outdoor adventurists who don’t always need to get supplies between 9 and 5. We continued north to Bingham after our stop and it was a beautiful drive through the back roads. Old houses, barns, fields and fields of crops and just beautiful open roads. Many of the houses have metal roofs? Will have to research that when I get a chance. But, once again the Garmin did us justice and popped us off the main road.
Now...we had set up to camp on this leg of our trip. BUT...it was going to be in the 30's in Northern Maine this evening ... so Mike (in his infinite wisdom...said ... ahhhh Hell to the No!) and we sprung for a cabin. The cabins are real nice and warm (and can sleep 24 people...yeah it is just the two of us...) Nice to have a freezer and a fridge though to keep the last bottle of wine cold that I brought from the fridge in VA.
We checked in to Northern Country Rivers. Dan, Dan and Karen are great. Dan and Karen gave me the tip to go to the bridge tomorrow to see the mist off the river ... AT 5.30 IN THE MORNING...YIKES. I am hoping to make it ... and crossing my fingers that Mike will join me ... we shall see.
We had the best plate of nachos ever here in Maine. We will be getting it tomorrow...again...so will post pic then.
Can't wait til tomorrow for white water rafting!
We are up to 700 plus miles on our trip now. The Element got 25.4 miles to the gallon!
